People’s Defense Forces Press Office HPG-BIM released its statement about the August month balance of operations and clashes. The statement underlines the heavy consequences of the Turkish army‘s military operations in Kurdistan. It was recorded that in August of 2012, guerrilla forces carried out 183 actions. HPG pointed out that over 400 soldiers and policemen were killed, 31 guerrillas died in clashes of the last month.
The statement shows that the operations of the Turkish army have decreased within this process inversely proportional to the increase of actions by Kurdish guerrillas.
The Turkish army-the statement says- launched 31 land operations and carried out 77 bombardments with howitzer and mortars. Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) has on the other hand bombed guerrilla-controlled areas as well as civilian settlements 23 times with warplanes and 16 times with cobra helicopters, notes HPG-BIM.
The statement underlines that bombardments of the Turkish army have not only started fires in at least 31 forests but also caused great damage to the vineyards and orchards of civilians in the region. HPG-BIM reminded that the bombardment in Kandil area targeted houses of villagers and a chicken farm.
Also, the statement points out that HPG guerrillas have carried out 183 actions in August, the month with highest figures of guerrilla actions, while guerrilla forces in the meantime launched the Revolutionary Operation which aims and has so far achieved to ensure free areas. Many areas in Þemdinli region have been under the control of HPG guerrillas since the beginning of the revolutionary operation on 27 July. One of the most remarkable guerrilla actions to have left its mark on the month of August was carried out in Hakkari’s Çukurca district on 4 August when more than 100 soldiers were killed in the operation.
In its statement HPG underlines that clashes and consequent losses have intensified in the month of August when 389 soldiers and 14 policemen died while 177 soldiers and four policemen were wounded during clashes and guerrilla actions.
As to the guerrilla losses, HPG-BIM said that 31 guerrillas lost their life last month, with 15 of them killed in the Çukurca action. Neither local sources nor HPG executives have confirmed the figures of Turkish army as to guerrilla casualties.
The statement also points out that six skorsky and two cobra helicopters of the Turkish army were damaged in August by guerrilla forces that also destroyed 16 position areas, one bus, 18 panzers, two scorpion type vehicles as well as a large number of weapons and one container of the Turkish army.
In the statement it is finally stressed that 17 lorries, 20 trucks, one engineering vehicle, four bulldozers, ten vehicles and one water tank truck were also destroyed for being used in the scope of a cooperation with the Turkish state in the military area.
Also, the statement notes that HPG guerrillas detained 18 people, among whom four are soldiers and fourteen others bureaucrats and civilians.
