Human bones have been found during the construction works going on in the region of Ayvanat gardens in Urfa's Siverek district on Wednesday, reported Dicle News Agency (DIHA).
The bones found in the region, which had been used as a recreation area and controlled by village guards in 90's, are thought to be the remains of some 30 people who disappeared during those years.
The public prosecution office of Siverek collected the bones and sent them to Forensic Medicine Institution for examination.
Following the preliminary scene examinations made upon the application by the family of a citizen who disappeared in 90's, IHD (Human Rights Association) Urfa Branch Chair Cemal Babaoğlu said they reached the conslusion that the bones belonged to people who were kidnapped and disappeared 16-20 years ago.
In the wake of this discovery, Babaoğlu said they had shared their opinions about the discovered bones with the public prosecutor of Siverek as well, and that they could share the documents and information they have if needed.
“We hope the bones found in this region -which had been controlled by village guards called Golıjlar in 90's- will shed light on those dark years. This region has always remained a mystery to the people of Siverek as nobody has visited the mentioned site since those years”, Babaoğlu said and remarked that the disappeared people must be ensured to have a grave and underlined that they could help to establish the identities of the bodies by taking samples from the relatives of missing persons in the region.
Commenting the discovery of bones as the evidence of the cruelty of the term's government, Babaoğlu called on the Turkish state to face its past and to relieve the pains of the people”.
