Hundreds of books and magazines seized during raid on bookstore in Amed

During the raid on Payîz Pirtûk bookstore, 409 books and 144 magazines were seized.

Police forces raided the bookstore Payîz Pîrtuk in the morning as part of an investigation launched by Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. During the search, which started at 05.00 and ended at 10.00, many books of Aryen, Aram, Sitav and J&J publications were seized, although there was no confiscation order. It is reported that 409 books and 144 magazines were seized.

It is claimed that the books ‘contain propaganda of an illegal organisation’ and ‘adopt the ideas of the organisation’, meaning the PKK. According to reports, some issues of Yeni Yaşam and Xwebûn newspapers, letters from prison, Jineolojî and Demokratik Modernite magazines were seized.

Cihat Güney, the owner of Payîz Pîrtuk, is among the 22 people detained during today’s raids which also targeted the Mesopotamia Language and Culture Research Association (MED-DER) and the Anka Language and Art Education Cooperative.
