419 political parties, civil society organizations, and democratic mass organizations came together to issue a joint declaration at the Southeastern Journalists Association (GGC) in Amed.
The declaration calling for the recognition of Rojava’s status is collecting signatures. The event was attended by Keskin Bayındır, co-chair of the Democratic Regions Party (DBP), as well as representatives of the signatory parties and mass organizations.
The declaration, read in Kurdish and Turkish, said: "In the Middle East, a mosaic of languages, religions, and cultures, the chaos continues to deepen. The borders drawn with rulers after World War I, without considering the political, social, and cultural realities of the region, have not solved existing issues; instead, they have added new ones to the list of problems. The status quo established over the past century has led to ongoing conflicts and crises that grow with each passing day in the Middle East. The last century has shown us that no equation disconnected from the reality of our geography has the potential to succeed. The equations being imposed have offered nothing to the peoples of the region other than war and death."
The declaration added: "The peoples’ pursuit of freedom has, throughout history, been undermined by turning it into a ground for ethnic, religious, and sectarian wars. Attempts to establish authoritarian, exclusionary, and anti-democratic systems have done nothing but amplify and deepen existing issues. Today, once again, we are witnessing a historic process in which despotic regimes in the Middle East are crumbling one by one.
The solution to the crisis in the Middle East lies in the establishment of a system where peoples, beliefs, cultures, and all marginalized groups can freely express themselves. Developments in the Middle East, and particularly in Syria, have once again demonstrated that projects aimed at creating a singular nation by denying diversity have no chance of survival. The only viable solution for Syria is to ensure that all peoples have the right to govern themselves in the regions they inhabit. Over the past decade, the governance model built in Rojava, pioneer by women, has provided a foundation of peace and stability for the peoples of the region. Turkey, which has been unable to resolve its own Kurdish issue for a century, now seeks to dismantle the democratic governance model established in Rojava. These policies have proven to be of no benefit to the resolution of the Kurdish issue, whether in Turkey, Syria, or elsewhere. On the contrary, they have internationalized the Kurdish issue, exacerbating its complexity."
The peoples of Syria to achieve status thanks to the Autonomous Administration
The declaration continued: "As the undersigned political parties, civil society organizations, and democratic institutions, we are closely following developments in both Syria and Rojava.
We remind the public of the preamble of the Rojava Social Contract:
For the establishment of justice, freedom, and democracy in an equal and ecological society free from discrimination based on religion, language, race, belief, sect, or gender. To achieve pluralistic, unique, and shared values of communal life through the political and moral structure of democratic society components. For respect for women’s rights and the institutionalization of the rights of women and children. For defense, self-defense, and freedom of belief and respect for all beliefs. We, the peoples of the democratic autonomous regions, Kurds, Arabs, Syriacs (Assyrians and Arameans), Turkmens, and Chechens accept this contract.
Our call is as follows: The peoples living in the region can no longer tolerate a life without status. In particular, the democratic resolution of the Kurdish issue will also bring peace to the Middle East. In this context, we call on all relevant parties to recognize the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria and to support the establishment of a democratic governance model in Syria that protects the rights of all its peoples."
