Hunger strike in Strasbourg reached day 61

A lot of people, activists and institutions have been coming to visit the hunger strikers in Strasbourg to make sure they feel the support and solidarity around them at any moment.

The hunger strike launched on 17 December in Strasbourg by 14 Kurdish activists continues.

Despite the deterioration of their health, the activists are determined to continue their hunger strike until their demand to end isolation against Abdullah Öcalan is met.

They called on everyone to do their share and joined the action wherever they are.

Solidarity from Sweden

Kurdish institutions and patriots in Europe support the resistance, coming from hundreds and even thousands of kilometres away.

On Monday, a group from the Swedish Democratic Kurdish Community Center (NCDK) came to Strasbourg to visit the activists. Co-chair Rıdvan Altun and executives Latif Cebe and Cemal Akad and Salih Gök spoke to hunger strikers on behalf of the Swedish delegation.

A resistance that will change history

Swedish NCDK co-chair Rıdvan Altun said there had been a moment in which the course of history had been changed. “We are beside this resistance that has changed the course of history.”

Demands are not for Kurdish people, but for the entire humankind

Altun said that the demand of the hunger strikers to end isolation against Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan are not just for Kurdish people but for the entire humankind.

Call on European institutions

Rıdvan Altun said the resistance had an impact on different segments of the world and renew his appeal to the Council of Europe and the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT), the only institution authorized to visit Öcalan.

“Our appeal to all institutions is to fulfil the demands of hunger strikers who are asking democracy to end isolation.”

Rıdvan Altun said that the Kurdish people would sooner or later break the isolation. “This isolation will end tomorrow if not today. This is our message to the whole world.”

Altun said that Kurds in Sweden will be organising actions all this week.

Koç: Let’s step up isolation

Speaking on behalf of the hunger strikers, Yüksel Koç, underlined that the resistance against isolation imposed on Öcalan is a struggle for the future of the Kurdish people and the peoples of the region.

Calling on everyone to support the resistance, Koç stressed that the resistance would succeed.
