Hunger striker Akın: Victory is near

"We are committed to our action, we don’t know what the future has in store for us, and today the government may not be approaching this process, but the stars are shining in the sky, and they are the precursor of victory."

As DTK co-chair and HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Güven, who leads the resistance demanding the end of isolation of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, has reached day 127 of her hunger strike, prisoners in various jails continue their fast.

Sedat Akın was in Erzincan T Type Prison and was released on the 44th day of his hunger strike. Now Akın is on the 67th day of fast, having continued the action after his release.

The day for Akın begins at 9 am when he takes liquids every hour. As he began to experience difficulties in taking liquids he now takes them every 2 hours.

Akın follows news bulletins throughout the day and talks about the general process of struggle, isolation and hunger strikes.

He ensures that his morale and motivation are high and said that he is experiencing problems such as stomach cramps, headache and fever. Akın's right eye is also losing sight.

We are on hunger strike because isolation is there

Akın talked with ANF about why he decided to go on hunger strike: "The main reason we entered the hunger strike, was to end the isolation of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan which in parallel means to end isolation imposed on all peoples of Kurdistan and Turkey. This is why we are on hunger strike. There is no other reason.”

I get morale from my friends

Akın then spoke about Leyla Güven and other activists on hunger strike. “The resistance they have launched is very precious and sacred. This action was not launched for the sake or interests of one individual. It is an action that will affect the future of Kurdistan and Turkey society. Today there are hundreds of people on hunger strike, in Europe, Bakur, Bashur and the prisons and they all have one legitimate demand: end isolation. I'm getting morale from all the resisting friends.”

Victory is near

Akın underlined that the conditions of his friends who went on hunger strike in prisons are pretty bad and added: “Their health situation is not very good. We are outside, but we have the same will and determination to resist. So we must say that hunger does not affect us very much. The people hearing our voice is enough for us, we are committed to our action, we don’t know what the future has in store for us, and today the government may not be approaching this process, but the stars are shining in the sky, and they are the precursor of victory. We believe that the morale and determination we are showing will ultimately force the government to move.”
