Hunger striker Kobanê taken to hospital in Berlin

Cemal Kobanê refused treatment and confirmed he would continue his fast. 

Kurdish activist Cemal Kobanê, who has been on hunger strike in Berlin since 29 January has been taken to hospital during the night. After refusing treatment he continued his action.

Kobanê has joined the hunger strike resistance led by Leyla Güven together with three others activists in Berlin, Ömer Bağdur, Şiyar Xelil and Mele Mustafa Tuzla.

Cemal Kobanê refused treatment and confirmed he would continue his fast. 

Kobanê’s health has taken a turn for the worse on Monday night and an ambulance took him to hospital. The activist though refused treatment and said he would continue his action. The doctors warned him of possible irreversible damages to internal organs. 

The Kurdish activist only accepted to drink some water in the hospital and then asked to be taken back to his friends. 

Kobanê had recently been suffering from difficulty breathing and had heart spasm. He has been on hunger strike for 112 days in the town of Kassel where he had gone on hunger strike with Ömer Bağdur. The other two activists have joined the hunger strike in Duisburg and Nuremberg before getting together in Berlin. 

Mele Mustafa Trap has been on hunger strike for 128 days, while Şiyar Xelil has been on hunger strike for 115 days.
