Kurds on a hunger strike in Stockholm demanding an end to the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan pass out flyers to inform the public and visit the political parties in the parliament to demand they take a stand against the isolation.

A committee representing the hunger strikers visited the parliament yesterday and met with Left Party MP and Foreign Policy Spokesperson Håkan Svennelig.

“INITIATIVE SHOULD BE TAKEN"

The activists informed Svennelig in depth about the isolation and the hunger strikes and pointed out that the health of some hunger strikers are at a critical stage in Turkey, Kurdistan and Europe. They also said initiatives should be taken at the level of the Swedish government and the European Union.

Svennelig said the Left Party has discussed the matter in the parliament before and added: “The European Union should pressure Turkey. The people responded to Erdogan’s authoritarian rule in the local elections. Erdogan must understand that the authoritarian tactics he has been using for a long time won’t be sustainable anymore.”

Svennelig said the European Union is silent against ERdogan because of the refugee deal the Union struck with Turkey and added that the Left Party will discuss the hunger strikes and the isolation in the Swedish Parliament once again.

Hunger strikers passed out  flyers in front of the parliament, in metro stations and in the Sergel Torg Square to inform the public about the isolation and the hunger strikes against the isolation.

“THE STRUGGLE WILL CONTINUE UNTIL THE ISOLATION IS ENDED”

The activists spoke to the ANF and said they will continue their struggle until the isolation is ended.

Hunger striker Tarik Merdini said Leyla Guven and the prisoners are engaged in a sacred protest to break the isolation against Ocalan and stressed that everybody who supports the Kurdish people should speak up.

Cahide Kalaba said the hunger strikes will continue until the isolation is ended and called on the Kurdish people to support the protests.
