IHD: 306 prisoners have serious health problems

Human Rights Association (IHD) Diyarbakir Branch released its report on ill prisoners in Turkey prisons at a press conference at the IHD office on Friday.

According to the report by IHD, there are currently 306 ill prisoners in Turkey prisons. The report which was prepared on the basis of detailed examinations on the situation of ill prisoners shows that there has been a remarkable increase in the number of ill prisoners in recent years.

Reading the press statement on the report, IHD Diyarbakir Branch Prisons Commission Member Lawyer Muhterem Süren stated that violations of the most vital and major rights are being witnessed in prisons in Turkey.

Members of the IHD Diyarbakır Branch demanded the immediate release of seriously ill prisoners and urged the Turkish President and Minister of Justice to display more sensitivity concerning the situation of ill prisoners in Turkey prisons.

IHD Diyarbakır Branch Chair Raci Bilici said that they will also send the report to the Ministry of Justice and all other relevant authorities to call attention to the situation of ill prisoners and to demand their release.
