Representatives of various Berlin organisations have founded an initiative to campaign against the use of chemical weapons by the Turkish army in Kurdistan.
An initiative has been founded in Berlin to campaign against the use of internationally banned chemical weapons by the Turkish army in Kurdistan. Representatives of Fed-Kurd, Dest-Dan, Nav-Berlin, ATIK, Dersim Construction Congress, Communist Party of Kurdistan, Kurdish Community and DIE LINKE discussed possibilities for action at a meeting where it was stressed that Turkish war crimes in Kurdistan cannot be ignored.
It was also pointed out that the Turkish state has committed itself to refraining from the use of asphyxiating, poisonous or similar gases in war by signing the Geneva Protocol in 1925. In the last six months, according to the People's Defence Forces (HPG), the Turkish army is said to have violated this protocol about 2,500 times.
Following the discussion, three commissions were formed to work on the media, diplomacy and society under the initiative and to create publicity on the issue.
