Inmates in Diyarbakır Prison being transferred to other jails

Inmates in Diyarbakır E Type Closed Prison are being sent to other jails in Turkey in line with the decision of the Ministry of Justice.

84 inmates have been transferred from Diyarbakır to Tekirdağ Prison on Tuesday. They were first taken to Çorlu by air, then taken to Tekirdağ in nine military vehicles.

It has been reported that the transfer of prisoners from Diyarbakır to Çorlu will continue throughout the day today.

In a statement about the transfer of inmates, Diyarbakır Governor Mustafa Toprak claimed that the inmates were being sent to other prisons to ease the overcrowding problem in the jail.

Toprak noted that the transfers were being made for the improvement of conditions in the prison, adding; "Some prisoners with suitable conditions are being sent to other jails in line with the decision of the Ministry of Justice. The closure of the prison is out of question and it will continue to be so until the construction of a new prison near Diyarbakır D Type Prison is ended".
