Inquiry on “Kill Erdoğan” banner dropped in Switzerland

The inquiry launched about a banner against Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan unfurled during a demonstration in Switzerland has been dropped.

Bern Canton legal authorities had launched a legal inquiry for inciting violence on the banner that was alleged to call for Erdoğan’s murder.

The banner that was used in a rally before the April 16 referendum had received backlash from the Turkish government. The Municipality of Bern ruled that the demonstration’s organizers didn’t engage in any behavior against the current laws. The inquiry on the banner was dropped.

The banner had a gun next to Erdoğan and read “Kill Erdoğan with his own weapons”. It was carried by the leftist autonomous groups.

During the referendum campaign, Kurdish associations, Socialist Party and the Greens in Switerzland had called for demonstrations against Erdoğan’s dictatorial goals and fascist attacks and for freedom, democracy and the rule of law.
