Intellectuals and writers to discuss about Constitutional rights for the Kurds

Responding to the call of the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP), Democratic Society Congress (DTK), Party of Rights and Freedoms (HAK-PAR) and Participatory Democracy Party (KADEP), 183 academicians, intellectuals, writers and Kurdish politicians will come together in Diyarbakýr on 17 and 18 September to discuss about the “national unity of Kurds” and the "new constitutional status for the Kurds"

While BDP Muþ MP Demir Çelik remarked that they aimed to turn the conference to a completely free platform, KADEP Deputy Chairman Lütfü Baksýl expressed that this conference will reveal the Kurdistani unity with the full participation of all political parties, democratic institutions and religious belief groups.

Kurds have expedited their "works for national unity” for the solution of the Kurdish problem through democratic means and for the determination of the status of the Kurds on the new constitution.

While the conference is indicated to be the most well-attended Kurdish Conference so far, HAK-PAR Vice President Ümit Tektaþ remarked that they aim to reach an agreement against common problems as more agreement will make more advances towards the solution.

Tektaþ added that a delegation will be formed during the conference to serve for peace, noting that one of the main goals of this organization is to bring various circles of Kurdistan close with the Kurdish Freedom Movement.

BDP Muþ MP Demir Çelik stated that the conference serves to create an originality where all circles and everyone can express himself and open their hearts and minds to each other.

Remarking that the conference is a part of the great Kurdish National Conference, KADEP Deputy Chairman Lütfü Baksýl commented that this conference introduces the Kurdistani unity ensured among Kurds. Baksýl, marking that demands will openly be expressed at this conference, said that; “At the end of the conference, we will make a call for peace and ceasefire and for the participation of the parliamentarians in the works for the new constitution”. Baksýl added that they will launch new the new practices for the inclusion of Kurds’ demands in the discussions on the new constitution.

Baksýl underlined that the removal of the isolation on the PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan will be an important step for peace. Noting that operations must be ended and the dialogue process must begin with the participation of all circles and groups, Baksýl said; “Everyone must be free if peace is desired”. (D.F.)
