Interior Minister Muammer Güler said that 939 people were taken into custody in more than 90 protest demonstrations in 48 provinces on Saturday. According to Güler, 53 protestors and 26 security officers were injured in clashes in Taksim.
On the other hand, Ankara Chamber of Medicines announced on Sunday that the police violence in Ankara left 414 protestors injured, 15 facing serious condition due to head trauma, on Saturday. The statement by the Chamber said that “All injuries were due to gas bombs canisters that caused direct traumas, canister burns, intervention vehicle crushing and falls during running away from police stones and canisters".
Protests in the capital Ankara continued till early morning. Around 20 thousand gathered at Güven Park at the central Kızılay Square. Police attacked protestors as they wanted to walk to Prime Minister's office. Gendarmerie units supported the police in attacking the protestors.
Protestors in Adana were also attacked by police as they wanted to walk to AKP's provincial office. Fires broke out in some places in the city. Dozens were seriously injured or taken into custody.
Clashes between Turkish police and protestors lasted till early Sunday morning in many provinces including İstanbul, İzmir, Kocaeli, Adana and Antalya.
Police attacked a large group of protestors who started walking from Taksim Square to the PM's office in Beşiktaş at midnight, saying "We have taken Taksim and will take the government now". Clashes broke out after the police attack and spread to other areas soon. Many people were reported detained and injured. Protestors set police vehicles on fire and laid fire barricades on streets.
Another group ruined the ofice of the governor in Sancaktepe and set an armored police vehicle on fire.
Clashes in İzmir continued for nine hours till morning as police attacked protestors walking to AKP's office in Konak. Dozens were reported detained.
Protestors in Kocaeli were also attacked by police as they started a march to AKP's provincial office, calling for government's resignation at midnight. Many were detained and injured.
In Mersin also, where thousands took to the streets Saturday afternoon, police attacked protestors as they laid fire barricades on streets and closed the way to traffic. Various groups and circles joined the protest, like everywhere else across the country, all together calling on the AKP government to resign.
The protest in Malatya started in the afternoon and lasted until police brutally attacked protestors who gathered near the AKP office on Milli Egemenlik Street at midnight. Around 15 were reported detained.
Tens of thousands were in the areas yesterday in solidarity with Taksim resistance going on for seven days today, including Antep, Antalya, Burdur, Zonguldak, Edirne, Erzurum, Sivas, Osmaniye, Hatay, Bursa, Isparta, Kütahya, Uşak, Bodrum Çorlu, Aydın, Trabzon, Diyarbakır and Batman.
