Sinn Féin Martina Anderson, who played a major role in the Irish freedom struggle and is currently an Irish MP, said: "We call on the international community to listen to Öcalan's words. Öcalan says that he is ready for possible steps to be taken for peace."
One of the lawyers who demanded freedom for the Kurdish people’s leader, Swiss lawyer Charlotta Lagnander, said: "Öcalan's message is of great importance. It is a message that clearly shows that a process must begin, and that this process must be a peace process. The dialogue process that aims for a peaceful solution must begin immediately."
Prof. Jeff Miley, from Cambridge University in Britain, said: "The recent developments are important in terms of the possibility of ending isolation. Politically and in good faith, Öcalan is always ready and has the power to lead the process from a conflict to a political environment that will actually ensure peace. A democratic solution to the problem is essential."
Lorena Lopez, President of the EFA (European Free Alliance) group in the European Parliament and known as the only independence group, said: "It is very important to hear that Öcalan is in good health. It is also very important that Öcalan opens the door to a peaceful solution, calls for an end to violence and a political solution. I think Erdoğan and the Turkish state should not miss this opportunity."
Sinn Féin Paul Gavan, a member of the parliamentary assembly of the Council of Europe, said: "We clearly see that we need to do much more, my colleagues and I want the isolation of Öcalan to end immediately. Öcalan has given a very important message to build the peace process. "The international community must listen to this message and Turkey must respond to this message, and our duty is to tell Turkey to comply with human rights and to release Öcalan immediately so that the peace process can be built."
