The march from Frankfurt to Strasbourg to protest the international conspiracy against Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan on February 15, 1999, is continuing.
The internationalist march was launched in Frankfurt on January 5 and is continuing with great enthusiasm despite the bad weather conditions and the German police ban on the flags, the posters of Öcalan and Kurdish symbols.
The German police stopped the march and tried to disguise the photos of Öcalan on the vests worn by the marchers. Activists protested the police intervention.
The internationalists gathered at the Darmstadt Democratic Culture Centre in the evening of the first day of the march and evaluated the course of the action by holding their first meeting.
Eight communes were formed to maintain security during the march. A spokesperson was assigned to each commune. The communes will gather each evening and discuss the problems and mishaps that emerged during the march and try to resolve the problems.
Participation in the action increased on the second day of the march. The number of internationalists coming from Catalonia, the Basque Country, France, Switzerland, Belgium, Spain, Germany, Scotland, England, Morocco, Denmark, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, the US, the Netherlands, China, Ireland and Armenia has increased to 150.
The activists are now marching to the city of Benshaim. They are expected to reach Bensheim after traveling 22 kilometres and they will be heading for Weinheim city of Manhemin after spending the night there.
The next points of the march are as follows:
February 8 (Tuesday): Weinheim-Mannheim, a memorial event for Berivan and Ronahi.
February 9 (Wednesday): Ludwigshafen-Bad Dürkheim
February 10 (Thursday): Homburg-Saarbrücken
