Iranian authors Bahram Rahmani and Abbas Samakar, who live in Sweden, have published a book and sent the proceeds from sales to support the Rojava revolution and the resistance in Kobanê.

The two authors said the efforts of women in the Cezîrê (Jazireh) canton to secure equality and the acceptance of new legislation to guarantee a just egalitarian society was of historic importance. Samakar said the struggle of women in Rojava and Kobanê had reverberated around the world, adding that he had organised two seminars in Rojava on women's rights.

‘The resistance in Kobanê mobilised millions'

Samakar said that the resistance put up in Kobanê against ISIS gangs had inspired millions of people around the world, adding that the resistance in Kobanê constituted an example for future struggles. He said it had also influenced many writers, poets and intellectuals.

‘We could not have merely watched what was happening in Kobanê’

Rahmani said they had decided to publish a book including the poems and articles of 50 writers, adding that the publisher had agreed to print the book without charge. The book contains articles and poems in 4 languages: Persian, Kurdish, Turkish and English.

Samakar said: “What we are doing is a drop in the ocean, but we could not have merely watched what was happening. We had a responsibility to offer support." He added that the first print run had almost gone and that a second edition would be printed next month.

Rahmani said they had sent books to the USA, Canada, Australia, Iran and Kurdistan, adding: “When doing this the object was moral support rather than financial."

Rahmani said they had also organised two solidarity events with Kobanê in Stockholm and were working on several projects to provide concrete support to the revolution in Rojava.
