Iraq plans to build a new oil pipeline to Turkey

Iraq Oil Ministry announces its plans to build a new pipeline to Turkey, which will bypass Southern Kurdistan.

The new pipeline will start in the refinery in Baiji and enter Turkey in Fishkabur, which is under Iraq central government’s control.

Iraq plans to export the oil from Kirkuk to Turkey via this pipeline. The oil will be transferred to Ceyhan port in Turkey and then will be loaded to tankers.

Iraq took control of Kirkuk’s oil fields from peshmerga in October after an attack by Hashd al-Shaabi forces.

The Fishkhabur border crossing is within Kurdish territory. Kirkuk’s oil was previously being exported via the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) pipeline to Ceyhan.
