Iraqi Defence Minister asks for peshmerga to help liberate Mosul

Iraqi Defence Minister Khalid Ubeydi has asked for assistance from the peshmerga to liberate Mosul from ISIS gangs.

It has been reported that at a meeting with his Kurdish counterparts in Hewler (Erbil), the capital of South Kurdistan, the Iraqi Defence Minister has asked for the assistance of the Peshmerga Ministry to liberate the city of Mosul from ISIS gangs.

Peshmerga Ministry General Secretary Jabbar Yawer said that talks between the two ministries had gone well and that there had been an exchange of views. Yawer said that at the hour-long meeting the Iraqi Defence Minister had made several requests, and that they had also made requests that the Defence Minister said he would take back to Baghdad for discussion.

Yawer said: “One subject on which we dwelt was that of operations being jointly run from Baghdad and Hewler. We asked for military aid from the coalition to be sent directly to Hewler, as when it comes via Baghdad there are delays.”

Peshmerga must help in Mosul

General Secretary Yawer said the Iraqi Defence Minister had asked them for assistance in liberating Mosul.  Yawer said that they were prepared to help, but had asked the Minister for more ammunition and equipment.
