Iraqi forces advancing towards Tikrit

Iraqi forces consisting of the Iraqi army and Shiite volunteers are advancing towards the town of Salahaddin.

Iraqi forces consisting of the Iraqi army and Shiite volunteers are advancing towards the town of Salahaddin. Local sources report that the Iraqi forces that are continuing a clean up operation are clashing with ISIS gangs in the towns of Al-Dor and Tikrit as they make further advances.

Clashes are taking place in southwest Tikrit and Al-Zıhur neighborhood to the north of the city as the Iraqi army and volunteers continue their advance on the southern front of Al Dor town.

It is reported that Shiite volunteers who crushed the ISIS front to the south Tikrit during yesterday's clashes retreated to their positions late in the evening.

A number of ISIS gangs have been reported killed in the intensified airstrikes of the U.S.-led international coalition on the battle field. It is also reported that Iraqi artillery forces are intensely shelling Tikrit and the ISIS resistance is being weakened further during today's clashes.

In the meantime, Iraqi security forces have stated that Ebu Qutada El-Libi and 23 gang members were killed in a raid in a village to the east of the Tikrit town.

Ebu Qutada El-Libi has been identified as the perpetrator of the massacre against 266 military school students during the occupation of Tikrit by ISIS, while many of those killed in the raid are reported to be Saudi Arabian.
