Iraqi MP calls on government and parliament to act against Turkish attacks

Remarking that the Turkish state took advantage of Baghdad’s silence, MP Xaşan called upon the Iraqi government and parliament to respond to Turkey’s attacks.

While the Turkish military operation seeking to capture the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq) continues, the Turkish army continues its attacks against the civilian population in the region, claiming more lives every day.

Late on Friday, soldiers of the Turkish army opened fire on the local people from their military base in the village of Keste, in the Amadiya district of Duhok province. Two women were injured as a result of the fire.

Earlier on Friday, an aerial attack by the Turkish army targeted a car on the move in the countryside of Sulaymaniyah city. According to reports, the car was targeted by an unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) in the village of Berlut, north of Kelar. Four people in the car were killed and one other injured as a result of the strike. The victims include the deputy chairman of the Executive Council of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria.

The Turkish state attacked the village of Perex in the Zakho district of Duhok with artillery on Wednesday afternoon. According to preliminary information, a man and his son were injured as a result of the attack.

On Wednesday morning, Turkish UCAVs shelled the People's Council building in the town of Sinune in Shengal, killing a child and injuring 7 other civilians.

Iraqi independent MP Basem Xaşan voiced reaction to the genocidal attacks of the Turkish state, calling for immediate action.

“Turkey, a bandit state, violates Iraq’s sovereignty and rights. Having failed to take the necessary steps to stop these violations and remained silent, Iraq has not warned Turkey through legal or other means,” MP Xaşan wrote on Facebook.

The independent member of parliament said, “One of the criteria for NATO support for member countries is non-violation of the other countries’ sovereignty and rights. Turkey, however, is responsible for attacks and harm caused by its violation of water rights against Iraq.”

Remarking that the Turkish state took advantage of Baghdad’s silence, MP Xaşan added, “The Iraqi government and parliament should respond to these attacks.”
