Istanbul Municipality voids contracts with Erdogan’s foundations

Mayor Imamoglu said that the annulled contracts came to a total of 357 million liras.

Istanbul’s Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu announced that the contracts with Ensar Foundation, TURGEV, Aziz Mahmud Hudayi Foundation and TUGVA have been voided by the municipality. Mayor Imamoglu added that the annulled contracts came to a total of 357 million liras.

Imamoglu spoke about the budget allocated from the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality to various foundations. Mayor Imamoglu said the work is just beginning, and continued:

“As of now, we have annulled a total of 357 million liras worth of contracts. Among these payouts, there was one foundation that received 56 million liras in support for dining. This is incredible. Where have they spent the money that belongs to the people? There was a building that was constructed, to be allocated to a foundation, that cost 165 million liras to build. That building now belongs to the people of Istanbul. This is just the beginning.”

Imamoglu said, “We have conducted inspections and found that many foundations received material cooperation in the form of construction of dormitories, leasing of buildings, building maintenance, transportation and catering, project support and other forms of aid through signed protocols or verbal contracts.”

The Mayor continued: “After the first inspection, we have decided to annul the protocols signed with the Ensar Foundation, TURGEV, Aziz Mahmud Hudayi Foundation, TUGVA, Dar’ul Funun Theology Foundation and Hoca Ahmet Yesevi Foundation. The protocols have been annulled.”
