Debate broke out when a snowball hit the window of a workplace in Kadıköy while Köklü and a group of friends of his were engaged in a snowball fight in Yeldeğirmeni neighborhood yesterday evening.

The angry shopkeeper repeatedly insulted and threatened the group as a snowball thrown by them hit his spice and herbs shop, angrily assaulting the group firstly with a stick then with a knife soon later.

Journalist Köklü who was critically injured after being stabbed on the chest was rushed to hospital in a taxi called by his friends when neither an ambulance nor police arrived the scene within the next ten minutes. The young journalist couldn't survive the savage attack despite all the efforts made to save him at hospital.

Yeldeğirmeni (Windmill) Solidarity platform to which Köklü was affiliated said in a Facebook post that the incident occurred when they were on their way back from a demo against the 'internal security package'.

The platform said that the shopkeeper attacked them first with a stick, then with a bread knife when a snowball hit the window of his shop, stabbing Nuk Köklü to death.

Describing the savage attack as a hate crime, the platform said Nuh's last words after the attack was 'Let this be a dream...'.

Nuh Köklü's body will be sent to Ankara for funeral.
