JUSO calls on Switzerland: “Freeze Erdoğan’s accounts”

The largest youth organization in Switzerland JUSO stated that the Turkish state violates international law with the war they wage against Kurds and called on Switzerland to take a clear stand against Turkey.

The youth organization of one of Switzerland’s largest parties the Socialist Party, JUSO, issued a statement and pointed out that as the civil war in Syria continues, international and regional forces violate international law in Syria and called on the Switzerland Federal Council to take a clear stance against the events. The statement said Turkey violates international laws and wages a war against Kurds in Afrin, and added that the war waged by international powers in Syria is on par with World War II. The statement also pointed out the rights violations and civilian deaths during the civil war and demanded that Switzerland use all its resources to prevent the deaths and violations in the country.
JUSO listed their demands from the Switzerland Federal Council as follows:

“Switzerland continues to sell weapons of war to powers either directly or indirectly party to the civil war in Syria. For instance, Switzerland sold 640.000 Franks worth of military equipment to Turkey, waging a war against Kurds, in 2017. There were arms sales worth 4.7 million Franks to Saudi Arabia, and 3.2 million Franks to the Arab Emirates. Considering the positions of these countries in the Syrian civil war, all sales of any type of military equipment must be banned.

“ISIS OIL ENTERS THROUGH TURKEY”

The Arab Emirates, Iran, Iraq and Saudi Arabia are among the countries that produce the most oil in the world. A significant portion of the oil extracted in these countries enters world markets through Turkey. Some of the oil that arrived in Switzerland in 2015 belongs to ISIS, and ISIS transports this oil through Turkey and Israel. Switzerland also controls a portion of the world’s oil trade.

That is why, Switzerland must stop the flow of oil directly or indirectly from the region and prevent the oil from entering world markets through Turkey in particular.

Switzerland must ban the sale of artistic and cultural artifacts extracted from the war zone, especially by ISIS.

“TRADE AGREEMENTS WITH TURKEY MUST BE ENDED”

Switzerland must immediately end the free trade agreement signed with Turkey.

Switzerland must deliver humanitarian aid to the warzone in Syria urgently and agree to take in 100.000 Syrian refugees.

“THE FEDERAL COUNCIL MUST CALL FOR A BOYCOTT AGAINST TURKISH TOURISM”

The Federal Council must call for a boycott against Turkish tourism. Like mentioned in the Mayor of Geneva’s statement to the ANF, “Don’t forget, for whatever purpose, supporting this state through vacationing in Turkey or any other way would mean being party to this war waged against Kurds. Supporting Erdoğan’s economy will both strengthen Erdoğan and count as support for his attack against Rojava Kurds who are recognized in the international arena.

Thus, it is very clear that supporting Turkish tourism means aiding the Erdoğan regime and an indirect support for Turkey’s war in Syria. Therefore, the Federal Council must call for a boycott against Turkish tourism.

“ERDOĞAN’S ACCOUNTS IN SWITZERLAND MUST BE FROZEN”

The Federal Council must launch an investigation on whether Erdoğan and his circle have accounts in Switzerland. If they do, like in the Arab Spring process, accounts of Erdoğan and his circle must be frozen.”

JOSO had previously issued a statement announcing that they will fight against the Turkish state’s invasion of Afrin.
