Karayýlan: Time for a solution to the Kurdish question

In an interview to Sterk TV on Tuesday evening, Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) Executive Council President Murat Karayýlan said the 35th year of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) will be the year for a solution to the Kurdish question.

Evaluating the statements of Turkish Prime Minister Erdoðan who has recently said that "PKK members could go to other countries in the event of laying down their arms", Karayýlan pointed out that they didn't have the idea of laying down arms on their agenda, adding; "The topic on our agenda is the matter of bearing arms in a more intensified and competent way in the face of the great conflict in the Middle East region. Why would we lay arms down while the AKP government is arming groups and sending them into the region? We took up arms for a purpose and we will not end it under the current circumstances which require an armed struggle more than ever. Had the self-defence groups in West Kurdistan failed to bear arms on time, they would have been the slaves of those armed groups by now".

Karayýlan said they expected politicians to interpret the current process well, noting that Kurdish people will never choose to surrender or take a passive stance.

KCK Executive Council President said they are ready to answer in the event that the Turkish state intends to resolve the Kurdish issue through dialogue and repeated that they see Kurdish leader Öcalan as the interlocutor in respect to the Kurdish problem.

Karayýlan ended his statement calling on the Turkish government to provide Öcalan with necessary conditions of security, health and free speech so that a dialogue process could start and arms could be laid down forever.
