Kartal: Former MIT member's statements of major importance
KONGRA GEL President Remzi Kartal assessed the statements by Murat Şahin. Şahin, a former member of Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MIT), has recently stated that Ömer Güney, detained in connection with the killing of Sakine Cansız, Fidan Doğan, and Leyla Şaylemez in Paris on 9 January, was also a member of MIT. Kartal said that Şahin's statements were of major importance and needed to be taken seriously by French state and relevant authorities.
Ömer Güney has been under arrest since 19 January.
"The Turkish state and MIT should answer to Şahin's statements which also place an onus on the French state and authorities leading the investigation into the killings, said Kartal.
KONGRA GEL President reminded that the Kurdish people expected both Turkish and French authorities to shade lights on the executions and added: "The Turkish state needs to shed light on the killings if it intends to continue the ongoing process of talks with the Kurdish leader in Imralı prison".
Kartal remarked that the French state had enough information and evidences on the murders and could shed light on the execution of three Kurdish politicians by including these latest allegations abot Güney in the investigation. Kartal noted that he does not think the murders were committed by a single person.
Kartal called on the Turkish government to state which were Ömer Güney's connections in Ankara.
The Federation of Kurdish associations in France (FEYKA) President Mehmet Ülker also stressed the importance of the recent reports on Ömer Güney and noted that they will soon have the report translated into French and hand it in to French authorities as well. “We consider it highly likely that Güney has ties with MIT or other organization. We as Kurds are continuing our investigation as well”.
Ülker said it is now surely beyond doubt that Ömer Güney infiltrated Kurdish circles and added that the French police already knows whether Ömer was alone or not in this task”.
