Kartal: Special teams were sent to Europe in 2011

Speaking to ANF about the assassination of three Kurdish politicians in the heart of the French capital on 9 January, Remzi Kartal, the leader of the Kurdistan People's Congress (KONGRA-GEL) told about the intelligence information they received on Turkey's sending execution teams to Europe in 2011.

Kartal underlined that they had also shared the unconfirmed information with relevant authorities in Belgium, where they were at that time, and added; "However, we don't know yet if the Paris killings are related with the news we heard at that time. We need to have evidences to put forward such an allegation."

The KONGRA-GEL leader remarked that "The timing of the killings, in the current process of ongoing talks for the Kurdish problem, shows that the assassination was planned by circles that do not want a solution to this problem. In this respect, the killings may have been planned by circles that we heard had sent execution teams to Europe back in 2011."

Kartal remarked that the Turkish state's attitude about the leading members of the Kurdish movement have always been open and plain and added that the "Relevant Turkish authorities do always tell their opinions and how they are against the Kurdish movement, which primarily targets the administrators and senior officials of the movement. Besides, the Prime Minister has also voiced his support to this attitude with statements such as 'we will follow and kill them in their caves if necessary'. In consideration of the state's attitude against leading members of the Kurdish movement, operations against the leading cadre in Kandil, the intelligence information in 2011 and the current situation, we see that it is a matter of plans directed at individuals representing the party, the PKK (Kurdistan Workers Party)."

Kartal continued commenting on how the mass execution in Paris could affect the ongoing talks with Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan; "The killings are unacceptable and leader Apo will be saying the same. The government should therefore act with extreme responsibility and sensitivity to avoid provocations in this process. It should also demand an investigation about the killings in order to ensure trust. So far though the Turkish government and media have done nothing except trying to cover up the killings, which makes the Kurdish movement and public opinion regard the Turkish government and state as some sort of an accomplice in the execution."

Kartal called attention to the ongoing security-cooperation between the French and the Turkish states and called on relevant authorities of the French state to "shed light on the killings by carrying out a thorough investigation".
