Kassel: "We will prevail if our people increase their support"

Activists in Kassel have been on a hunger strike for 26 days against the isolation. The activists say, “We will prevail if our people increase their support.”

The hunger strike in Kassel protesting the isolation imposed upon Kurdish people’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan continues on day 26.

“WE CAN MAKE IT, WE NEED BIGGER RALLIES AND MARCHES”

The activists have the following message:

Omer Bagdur: “I am from Cizira Botan, I am 54. I’ve lived in Germany for 16 years. We wanted to be the first to follow Leyla Guven, but unfortunately we were delayed. We have been on this resistance for 26 days, and we are utterly happy. Our morale is very high.

All these activities and efforts are not enough to respond to the process, which demands of us the stance and level of activity put forth during the ‘90s. Hundreds of thousands of people would attend rallies and marches back then. Our expectation from our people is a return to that spirit.

Surely there are activities and protests, but these are not enough. Kurds have created thousands of countries in their minds, there are great gains. What is missing is the freedom of Leader Apo. And we are at a point where we can achieve that.”

“OUR PEOPLE SHOULD INCREASE ACTIONS BEFORE MARTYRS COME”

Cemal Mehmud: “I’m Cemal Heci Mehmud, I’m from Kobane, Rojava. I am sorry we couldn’t start this protest at the same time as comrade Leyla Guven. This was a shortcoming on our part.

In our first assembly in Kassel, we decided to hold a hunger strike for 10 days as 4 activists. From the 7th day onward, with Nasir Yagiz and others in Strasbourg joined in, we didn’t have the heart to end our protest. Then with Omer we decided to turn our hunger strike to an indefinite and nonalternating one.
Today is day 26 for us. Our morale and faith are high, we are strong. Our people in Kassel support us. Our call for them is to increase their actions further before our friends are martyred.

This is an honorable struggle, and our religion bestows the title of martyr to those who fight for their honor and land and lose their lives. You are a martyr if you give your life for your people, your land and your leader. We send our greetings to all honorable Kurds. All must do all they can and support this struggle.”
