The KCD-E (Kurdish Democratic Society Congress in Europe) has called for a mobilisation in the last week for voting in Europe, “Democracy week”, saying it is vital to ensure the election campaign keeps up its momentum. The KCD-E recalled that voting in Europe for the 7 June elections ends on 31 May, saying that although the campaign has reached a certain level it has not yet attained the desired level. “In order to take more voters to the polling stations to cast their votes for the HDP we must make one more final effort,” the statement added.
The KCK-E statement said that in order to counter the attacks of the AKP on the Kurdish people and HDP party workers, and to end the isolation of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan work must be stepped up. The statement continued: “The support you gain in Europe for the HDP will deal the greatest blow to the AKP. Every single vote counts if the threshold is to be exceeded. Everyone should be aware of this and there should be no complacency.”
The KCD-E statement called on everyone to get time off work during the Democracy Week 25-31 May declared by the HDP European Election Coordination, and to do all they can to get people to the polling stations.
The statement said that free buses were being organised in Germany, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands, Britain and other countries to take people to vote.
The KCD-E statement added that voting would take place in the Netherlands, England, Scotland, Sweden, Italy, Romania, Finland and Canada between 29 and 31 May, emphasising that people should endeavour to get to the polling stations as early as possible as the time allocated for voting is short.
The statement reminded voters that those travelling to Turkey and Kurdistan before 7 June could vote at the border. It concluded by calling for a mass mobilisation in Europe similar to that for Kobanê and Sinjar.
