KCDK-E co-chairs to EU Foreign Ministers: Don't remain silent

The KCDK-E demanded "the EU, Council of Europe, UN, NATO to not remain silent against these anti-democratic practices and to apply diplomatic pressure to guarantee the right to be elected is respected."

KCDK-E co-chairs Fatoş Göksungur and Yüksel Koç wrote a letter to all European Foreign Ministers to demand they put pressure on Turkey so that the dismissed HDP co-mayors can be put back in their place.

The European Kurdish Democratic Society Congress (KCDK-E) co-chairs said in their letter: "The Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs appointed trustees to 5 HDP municipalities on 15 May 2020 without any justification and detained the co-mayors. After the appointments of trustees, the surroundings of the municipal buildings were blockaded by the police and municipal services were blocked."

The two co-chairs reminded Turkey "is a member of the Council of Europe. However the AKP government, which uses all the means of the state to prevent the Kurdish people from using their choices freely in the elections, dismisses those chosen by the people's will and imprison them."

The letter added: "Iğdır, Siirt, Kurtulan, Baykan and Altınova municipality co-mayors were the last to be detained and replaced by trustees."
