KCDK-E to take over the Vigil for Öcalan on 25 June

The Vigil for the freedom of Öcalan began on 25 June 2012.

The KCDK-E (European Kurdish Democratic Societies Congress) and the co-presidents of all the associations under it will join the Vigil for the freedom of Kurdish People’s Leader, Abdullah Öcalan in Strasbourg on June 25th.

KCDK-E co-chair Council recalled that 25 June marks the sixth anniversary of the Vigil which began in France in the city of Strasbourg for the freedom of Öcalan.

The Vigil began on 25 June 2012 and since then has been carried out in front of the Council of Europe, the European Court of Human Rights, the Committee for the Prevention of Torture and the European Parliament.

The KCDC-E said in a written statement that “so far, hundreds of people from Kurdistan, Turkey’s Assyrians, Alevis, Ezidis living in Europe, together with women and youth organizations representatives and European friends, politicians, trade unionists, have been attending the Vigil.”

KCDK-E emphasized that fighting against the isolation regime imposed on Öcalan and defending his right to freedom is vital. “The AKP-MHP fascist alliance - said the statement - have launched a comprehensive war on Kurds and the Middle East. For this the freedom of Öcalan is even more important today.”

Press conference to mark the 6th anniversary of the Vigil for Öcalan

KCDK-E confirmed they will take over the Vigil on 25 June and added “we will make this Vigil even more inclusive and powerful. On this basis, we call upon our people and friends once more to take part in this Vigil.”

KCDK-E has said that on 25 June it will hold a press conference at the presence of those who have been on hunger strike asking for Öcalan’s freedom.

On 27 June the same group will hold a press conference at 11 am. On this occasion European MPs and some deputies from South Kurdistan are also expected to attend.
