KCK calls for independent doctors' visit to Imralı
Kurdish Communities Union (KCK) Executive Council Presidency has released a statement concerning the health problems Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan voiced during his most recent meeting with his brother, Mehmet Öcalan, on 1 July.
Reminding that Öcalan has been held in İmralı prison for 14 years now, KCK pointed out that the freedom, security and health conditions of the Kurdish leader were of major importance to the Kurdish people and the Kurdish liberation movement. KCK said the Turkish state and the AKP government were primarily responsible for guaranteeing the safety and healthcare of the Kurdish leader.
KCK remarked that the Kurdish movement and people were concerned over the fact that neither the government nor the relevant ministry has given an answer to Öcalan's demand to see an independent delegation of doctors for his complaints.
KCK urged the AKP government to enable the treatment of the Kurdish leader by an independent delegation of doctors. It also called on the Kurdish people to display sensitivity to the health and safety of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan.
Following the visit to İmralı prison on 1 July, Kurdish leader's brother Mehmet Öcalan said that his brother asked to meet an independent delegation of doctors for his complaints of inflammation of throat, nose and mouth.
"I will not speak for the benefit of the fragile process we are going through. The first thing is that my brother has health problems and he therefore wants to meet an independent delegation of doctors. He has conveyed his condolences to the family of the youngster killed in Lice. I think a delegation of the BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) will pay a visit to Imralı within the next week. This is all I can say for now", he said.
