KCK: Government must send an independent delegation to İmralı

Kurdish Communities Union (KCK) Executive Council Co-Presidency has released a written statement about Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan's yet unanswered demand to see an independent delegation of doctors for his health problems.

The statement remarked that the ruling AKP government has yet to answer the demands of Turkish Doctors' Union, Medical Chambers in Kurdistan and DTK (Democratic Society Congress) to provide an independent delegation for the treatment of the PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) leader. KCK commented the government's silence towards these demands as the manifestation of its unserious attitude towards the democratic solution process.

The Union pointed out that the Kurdish people attached a critical importance to the health, safety and freedom of their leader Abdullah Öcalan and that they therefore expected an independent delegation to ensure Öcalan's treatment in İmralı prison.

KCK Co-Presidency underlined that the government's insensitivity to the chief negotiator's state of health raised doubts over its attitude towards the ongoing process in search of a democratic solution to the Kurdish question.

KCK criticized the AK Party government for blaming "some others for going against the peace process" while it itself presented a manner that could sabotage the process. "When this is the case, AKP can say nothing to those who go against the process, nor be convincing if it does", KCK added.

The AKP government must urgently send an independent delegation of doctors to İmralı if it really intends to embrace the democratic solution process Öcalan initiated, KCK underlined and said that it was not possible to achieve negotiations nor a solution unless the AKP government treated the Kurdish leader with respect and sensitivity.

KCK Co-Presidency called on Kurdish people, and all democracy powers in Turkey, to enhance their democratic acts to ensure the treatment of the Kurdish leader by an independent delegation in order to contribute to Turkey's democratization.
