Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) Istanbul main trial has resumed this morning in Silivri Prison Complex. 205 politicians (122 are in prison), are tried in the scope of the so called KCK Istanbul case. Politicians were arrested in a KCK operation which targeted BDP provincial and district offices, politics academies and institutions between 5 and 28 September 2011.
Lawyers at the KCK Istanbul main trial asked for the hearing of Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) co-chair Selahattin Demirtaþ as "witness" in consideration of his statements "KCK operations were arranged during the meetings of the AKP (Justice and Development Party), MIT (National Intelligence Organization), representatives of an islamist sect and the judiciary". The court board however rejected the demand of lawyers, defending that "Demirtaþ statement isn't related with the gist of the action".
The court board announced that the demands for the release of suspects will be received on 20-21 December.
Since 2009, over 8,000 people in Turkey have been arrested as part of anti-terror operations against the KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union).
