KCKD-E: We will not forget the massacres in Halabja, Qamishlo, Gazi and Afrin

The European Kurdish Democratic Societies Congress said that the massacres of Halabja, Qamishlo and Gazi and the atrocities during the occupation of Afrin will never be forgotten.

The European Kurdish Democratic Societies Congress (KCDK-E) released a statement remembering the massacres committed during the month of March and calling on the Kurdish people to obtain their freedom by raising the resistance everywhere against the genocidal attacks of the Turkish state on the basis of national unity.

The statement released on Friday said the following:

“We commemorate the massacres carried out by the colonial states in Halabja, Qamishlo, Gazi and Afrin in the month of March. Throughout history, colonial powers have tried to suppress the freedom and equality struggle of the Kurdish people through policies of massacre and genocide. In response, the Kurdish people have maintained their struggle and values through resistance against oppression.

While Iraq’s dictator Saddam killed 5000 Kurds with chemical weapons and mustard gas in Halabja in 1988, the colonial Turkish state carried out the Gazi Massacre on March 12, 1995 in Istanbul. The Syrian regime carried out a massacre on March 12, 2004 following a conflict between Kurds and Arabs. The AKP-MHP fascism occupied Afrin on March 18, 2018, relying on a similar mentality and policies of massacre. All these massacres and occupation policies have not prevented the freedom struggle of the Kurdish people but further increased their rage and determination to fight back.

Furthermore, the Turkish state has recently escalated its attacks in Kurdistan. It is attacking the freedom guerrillas with all kinds of weaponry and chemical weapons. They believe that they can stop the Kurdish freedom struggle. Just as those who carried out the massacres in Halabja and Qamishlo lost, the Turkish state is currently losing in the face of our people's struggle for freedom and is facing major crises.

The same mentality, which previously tried to suppress the struggle of our people with chemical and biological weapons in Halabja, is now attacking all our people and values in Afrin, Shengal, South Kurdistan, Maxmur and North Kurdistan in an attempt to prolong their lives.

The Turkish state is an enemy of humanity since it left hundreds of thousands of people to die under the rubble when the February 6 earthquakes struck Kurdistan. It resorts to all inhumane methods to maintain its power based on lies, deception and plunder.

As the KCDK-E, we urge the Kurdish people to obtain their freedom by raising the resistance everywhere against these massacres and genocidal attacks on the basis of national unity.”
