KESK condemns today's operation and arrests
Confederation of Public Workers' Unions (KESK) has held a press conference to condemn the police operation which targeted members of the Confederation in 29 cities early Tuesday.
Speaking at the press conference in front of KESK head office in Ankara, KESK President Lami Özgen said that the wave of arrests has been targeting all those who display opposition against the so-called "advanced democracy" of the AKP government.
Those who are dragging Turkey to a one man government aim to condemn the society to deep silence by imposing an unlawful repression on all opponent and democrat circles and all those who want a democratic country.
Özgen remarked that 59 executives and members of the KESK have been put in prison for union activities as a result of never-ending operations against the confederation in the last one year.
Özgen said that over 100 people have been taken into custody in today's operation so far, and that they have no information available as to detainees' links to the confederation.
Özgen pointed out that KESK will never remain silent, as it has done so far, against any kind of unlawful practices aimed at the suppression of the fair and democratic struggle of confederation. Özgen demanded the urgent release of all detainees.
