KESK: The budget 2020 is a gender-blind budget

KESK Women's Secretary Gülistan Atasoy said about the budget of 2020: "It is necessary to say that there are no resources to meet the economic, social and political inequalities experienced by women, nor this is a goal of this budget."

Gülistan Atasoy, Women's Secretary of the Confederation of Public Workers Unions (KESK), spoke about the 2002 budget recently approved by the Parliament and said that in reality it is a budget which ignores the real demands.

Atasoy said: "The budget prepared by governments normally gives an idea of the concept of governance for the country. Because the budgets are political texts, the 2020 central budget prepared by the Presidency strategy and budget commission and duly brought to the parliament was prepared in accordance with the management approach of the one-man regime, and the real demands of the people, women, laborers and young people were the most affected by the budget distribution and were in fact ignored."

Pointing out that the inequalities in the budget are not resolved, Atasoy said that once again it paid no attention to women.

Emphasizing a gender-blind budget for women, Atasoy said: "It is necessary to say that there are no resources to meet the economic, social and political inequalities experienced by women. Although it is said that a budget program sensitive to equality of opportunity between women and men was prepared, we know that these are just words. There is an approach away from a real goal of equality, an approach which in fact rejects gender equality and therefore avoids this responsibility using the concept of 'equal opportunity'".

Stating that women's access to public resources and services is becoming more and more difficult every day and women's poverty and unemployment are gradually increasing, Atasoy added: "The budget shows there is no intention to address these issues. The realization of a budget based on gender equality means to develop and implement an understanding that protects women's rights in the budget by securing these and establishing control mechanisms."
