Kışanak: AKP delaying process
Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) co-chair Gültan Kışanak assessed the democratization process and the “democracy package” at the “Peace Award” ceremony organized by the Peace Assembly of Turkey.
Directing criticism at the government concerning the so-called democracy package Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will announce on 30 September, Kışanak said that the government has for some reason been delaying the announcement of the package for the last four months, and debating on the package behind closed doors. BDP co-chair said the ruling AKP government seemed unaware of what it was doing, citing the statements of Erdoğan who has said that there will be no arrangements in relation to the matters of mother tongue education and the anti-terror law.
Kışanak remarked that the government has been promising to bring democracy since the day it came to power, and that people now wanted to live democracy instead of waiting for it. "We have no more time to wait. In addition, what is it that we are waiting for? It is 12 years now that we have been waiting the AKP government to bring democracy and it is still continuing to tell people to wait some more. They are not aware of the fact that we have arrived at the end of the road".
