KNK: Imralý talks, positive step

In a written statement on the Imralý meeting between BDP officials and Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan, the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) said that the talks are "a positive step" and called on relevant authorities to lead the ongoing process to negotiations.

KNK highlighted the reasons for their support to the Imralý talks as follows; “The Kurdish people, Kurdish Freedom Movement and their leader Abdullah Öcalan as well as the KNK itself have always voiced their demand for a permanent solution to the Kurdish problem on a democratic ground, and indicated Mr. Öcalan as the interlocutor in the search for a peaceful solution to the conflict”.

However, "the Kurdish people do not find the current efforts sufficient" remarked KNK and added that the "talks could have a positive outcome if Mr. Öcalan would be provided with proper conditions of health and safety and all Kurdish political prisoners be released, including the Kurdish leader".

The KNK continued calling on the Turkish state to "stop waging a psychological war and to start using a constructive language in the process of ongoing talks". The KNK noted that the conditions Öcalan had earlier declared should completely be fulfilled in this period so that talks could turn into negotiations.

The KNK ended its statement calling on all political parties, movements, institutions and establishments in Kurdistan to "follow the process closely and to support the efforts to ensure a permanent solution to the Kurdish question".
