Kobanê Trial: Tuğluk will be held in forensic medicine institution for 3 weeks

During the latest hearing of the Kobanê Trial, the court said that jailed Kurdish politician Aysel Tuğluk who has serious health issues will be kept under observation at the forensic medicine institution (ATK) for 3 weeks.

The 9th hearing of the Kobanê Trial launched against 108 politicians is being held at the Sincan Prison Campus in the Ankara 22nd High Criminal Court. Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Co-Chair Mithat Sancar, HDP deputies and central executive committee members, HDP Ankara Provincial Organization members and administrators, as well as many other people attended the hearing.

While politicians held in Sincan Prison were present in the courtroom, other politicians held in different prisons attended the hearing through the sound and video information system (SEGBİS). The hearing started with identification, after which the documents and petitions added to the file were read out. The court announced that jailed politician Aysel Tuğluk, who has serious health problems, will be kept under observation by the ATK for 3 weeks. The court also revealed that the warrant, whether the YPG is on the "terror list” or not, has been responded to.

The court decided to reject the request to exclude politician Aysel Tuğluk from the hearing since her defence had not yet been taken, but adding that she was excused from the hearing temporarily since she had an appointment with the ATK concerning her health condition and would remain under observation within the institution. The court also decided to exclude HDP former central executive committee member Berfin Özgü Köse from the hearing.

Tuğluk's lawyer, Ali Bozan, pointed out that the court's rejection of the request for her client's exclusion was neither legal nor human. “The forensic medicine institution in Istanbul has made a decision. Our client will be referred to the forensic medicine institution there this week. Taking into account all this, we demand that Tuğluk be excluded from the hearing,” the lawyer said.

The hearing will continue in the afternoon.
