KON-MED announces a variety of activities for Abdullah Öcalan in February

The Kurdish umbrella organization KON-MED dedicates the month of February to the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan and announces a variety of activities under the slogan "The time is ripe: Freedom for Öcalan, end to fascism and occupation in Kurdistan".

The Germany-wide umbrella organization KON-MED is dedicating February to the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan and announcing a variety of activities under the slogan "The time is ripe: Freedom for Öcalan, end to fascism and occupation in Kurdistan".

"With our five federations, our councils and thousands of activists, we will participate in the global campaign called by the Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan international action committee," reads a recent statement by KON-MED which includes the following:

"Erdogan's ruling party, the AKP, has not only been waging a war against the Kurdish population in its own country for some time, but it is also using military escalation against the Kurds' achievements in Syria and Iraq. A peaceful political solution to the Kurdish question therefore currently seems further away than it has for a long time. The Kurdish society's struggle for self-determination has become a key element in the democratic reshaping and stabilization of Turkey and the entire region. Central to the solution of the Kurdish question and the democratization of Turkey in this sense is the constitutional recognition of the Kurds, on the basis of which their cultural, linguistic and political rights are guaranteed. A central condition from the Kurdish side for peace is an end to the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan, who has been on the Turkish prison island of Imralı since his abduction in February 1999 from the Greek embassy in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi in violation of international law.”

KON-MED also wants to draw attention to the hunger strike of political prisoners in Turkey with its activities in February and points to the letter campaign to the UN and the "100 reasons" campaign of the Kurdish women's movement. Numerous demonstrations will take place in Germany in February, and a mobile library will also tour the Federal Republic, distributing information by and about Öcalan.
