Kurdish activist Şiyar Xelil taken to hospital

Kurdish activist Şiyar Xelil, who was on hunger strike for 121 days in Germany, was taken to the hospital because of heart problems.

According to information received Şiyar Xelil was taken to the German Heart Center in Munich this Friday.

Xelil was reported to be receiving treatment because of arrhythmia in his heart. No more detailed information about his health status could be obtained.

Together with three Kurdish activists, Xelil went on a hunger strike in Germany, demanding the end of the isolation against Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

After a 121-day hunger strike, Xelil, along with all the other hunger strikers called off the protest on 26 May 26, after Öcalan's meeting with his lawyers.
