Kurdish areas hit by high unemployment

According to the "2012 Results of Household Labour Force Survey" report released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), the rate of unemployment in Turkey was recorded to be 9,2 percent for the year 2012, with the highest rate seen in the provinces of Mardin, Batman, Şırnak and Siirt, by 21,3 percent.

The report said that the labour force participation rate throughout the country was 50 percent last year, with the highest rates being had by the region of Zonguldak, Karabük, Bartın by 58,1 percent, followed by the region of Antalya, Isparta, Burdur by 56,9 percent, and by the region of Aydın, Denizli, Muğla by 56,5 percent. The lowest rate of labour force participation was on the other hand recorded in Şanlıurfa and Diyarbakır by 28,8 percent, and in Mardin, Batman, Şırnak and Siirt by 35 percent.

According to the TÜİK report, the highest rate of employment was 45,4 percent throughout the country last year, with the highest rates belonging to the region of Zonguldak, Karabük, Bartın by 53,9 percent, the region of Manisa, Afyonkarahisar, Kütahya, Uşak by 52,4 percent, and the region of Antalya, Isparta, Burdur and Aydın, Denizli, Muğla by 52,2 percent.

The rate of unemployment throughout the country was 9,2 percent for the year 2012, with the highest rates recorded in Mardin, Batman, Şırnak, Siirt by 21,3 percent, followed by Şanlıurfa and Diyarbakır by 26,8 percent, followed by the Mardin, Batman, Şırnak, Siirt by 27,5, and by Gaziantep, Adıyaman, Kilis by 38,5 percent.
