In a written statement on behalf of Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) and Kurdistan Women’s Liberation Party (PAJK) prisoners, Deniz Kaya announced on Sunday that they will end their protest as of today in response to PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan’s call for the ending of the hunger strike without any hesitation.
Kurdish leader Öcalan sent his message to prisoners through his brother Mehmet Öcalan who visited him on Imralý Island on Saturday.
Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) co-chair Gültan Kýþanak, deputies Sabahat Tuncel, Sýrrý Süreyya Önder and Democratic Society Congress (DTK) co-chair Aysel Tuðluk therewith paid urgent visits to two prisons in Diyarbakýr to convey Öcalan’s call.
BDP co-chair Kýþanak announced on Sunday that 447 prisoners in Diyarbakýr D Type Prison have ended their hunger strike early in the morning and that the hunger strikers in E Type will also announce their decision today.
The inmates who have ended their protest are receiving treatment in prison and those in need of further healthcare are being referred to the regional research hospital under the supervision of Diyarbakýr Chamber of Doctors.
Eighteen other hunger strikers who have ended their protest in Siirt E Type Closed Prison have also been referred to Siirt State Hospital.
