Kurdish politicians in Mardin remain in jail

Court ordered continuation of detention for jailed Kurdish politicians who include sick prisoner Bayram Demirhan.

Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Party Assembly member Bayram Demirhan and Kurdish politicians Davut Bozan, Hasan İlhan, Mehmet Ali Dayan and Mehmet Ceylan were imprisoned in Mardin city last year. The 12th hearing in the case against the Kurdish politicians was held at the 2nd Heavy Penal Court of Mardin today.

Speaking at the hearing, Davut Bozan said; “I have been behind bars for 18 months. I was transferred to Tekirdağ against my will. During this period, I started to suffer from hypertension.”

Speaking after, sick prisoner Demirhan said; “I have experienced a loss of sight by 95 percent in one eye and 28 percent in the other. I cannot receive a treatment.”

Prisoner Hasan İlhan did not defend himself due to the absence of his lawyer.

The court ruled continuation of detention for the Kurdish politicians on trial and scheduled the next hearing for 25 October.
