Turkish intelligence said to be behind ‘incidents’ at Lesbos refugee camp which houses Kurds and Arabs.
On May 26, a group attacked the Kurds in the state camp on the Greek Island of Lesbos, leaving 7 Kurds injured. According to reports, a group tried to turn the incident into a Kurdish-Arab conflict. Turkish intelligence is suspected to have a role in the incident.
Talks held by the Kurdistan Cultural Center (NÇK)-Greece for the targeted refugees have produced some preliminary results.
Kurdish NGOs in the country demanded that Kurdish refugees move to a safe camp after the provocation. After this request was accepted, the refugees have moved to a new camp.
The delegation which met the people on behalf of NÇK-Greece was made up of the Greek Minister for Refugees, TJK-E member and Kurdish politician Ruken Demir, PYD Greek representative Ibrahim Muslim and Greek Democratic Society Assembly co-leader Bahdin Ahmed.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Ruken Demir expressed her gratitude to the authorities for giving a new camp in such a short period of time and thanked the Greek authorities.
Referring to the SDF, the Kurdish-Arab alliance in Syria, Demir pointed out that those who provoked the SDF spirit with such events, trying to undermine Kurdish-Arab relations, were in fact the Turkish intelligence.
Demir said that the people will defend Rojava with Kurdish and Arab unity, like they did for Kobanê, like they are doing in Afrin today.
A mother from Afrin who had the right to speak on behalf of the people coming from the Lesbos Camp warned that there were people among the attackers who they had never seen in the camp. The mother from Afrin pointed out that the attack was planned, saying that some of the attackers were masked.
The mother from Afrin said that there have been no problems with Arabs in the camp until some strangers came to the camp and tried to stir up problems. The woman thanked the PYD for standing up for the refugees and said: “I am proud of the party”. She ended her speech saying: “Bijî serok Apo” (Long Live President Apo).
