Representatives from the Kurdish community in Australia met with Australian Greens and Liberal Party MPs to share their concerns and request solidarity.
A delegation from the Victoria and Sydney Democratic Kurdish Society Centers visited Greens MP Samantha Ratman and Liberal Party MP Julian Leeser on Monday to talk about concerns and demands of Kurds.
The issues of hunger strikes launched by HDP MP Leyla Guven to break the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan, the Turkish state’s human rights violations, invasion attacks and threats were discussed in the meeting.
The Kurdish delegation pointed to the critical stage the hunger strikes are at and said Australian authorities should pressure Turkey.
The delegation also asked the MPs to take the Kurds’ demands to the Parliament and support them in a petition soon to be launched for this.
The delegation also stressed the invasion attacks against Rojava, the Kurds’ struggle against ISIS and the Turkish state’s criminal partnership with ISIS and demanded that these issues be discussed in the Parliament.
According to the delegation, Liberal Party MP Julian Leeser said he will be requesting a meeting with Foreign Minister Marise Payne to discuss the Turkish state attacks and threats.
Greens MP Ratman said they will be submitting a written question in the parliament on Leyla Guven on February 8.
