Kurdish youth in Marseilles, France hanged PKK flags on the German consulate to protest the German state’s attempts at criminalizing the Kurdish freedom movement.

A protest was held in Paris with the same goal as well. The youth hanged Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan’s posters and Ciwanên Azad, Jinên Ciwanên Azad and PKK flags on the Federal Republic of Germany embassy building.

On March 2, German Interior Affairs Ministry had issued a notice demanding a ban on the flags of many Kurdish parties and institutions including PYD, YPG, YPJ, PJAK, Ciwanên Azad/Jinên Ciwanên Azad, YXK/JXK and NAV-DEM. The ministry said the notice was an “update” on the ban on the PKK, in place since 1993 in Germany.
