Kurdistan People's Initiative calls to mark June 1
Kurdistan People's Initiative released a written statement to mark the anniversary of “June 1 Move”, in 2004, when HPG (People's Defense Forces) declared an end to the ceasefire it had announced on August 5,1999, three days after the call Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan made through his lawyers for the withdrawal of Kurdish guerrillas from Turkish borders.
HPG ended the ceasefire as a response to the Turkish state and AKP government's insistence on eliminative policies, the ongoing military operations against Kurdish guerrillas within the process of ceasefire, which lasted five years, the killing of 500 guerrillas in Turkish army's operation during the wihtdrawal, and the general situation in Turkey where countless people were killed or injured that year in unsolved murders, mine explosions and prisons.
Kurdistan People's Initiative called for civil commotion to mark the anniversary of the June 1 Move which -it said- has paved the way for the victory Kurdish people have achieved today.
The Initiative pointed out that Kurdish leader Öcalan made a historic move on 21 March 2013 aimed at democratic liberation and the construction of a free life, and that he thus shaked the political balances in the Middle East. The move he made -it said- was inspired by the June 1 Move and August 15 Insurgency when PKK (Kurdistan Workers Party) carried out its first attacks against Turkish military in Siirt's Eruh district and Hakkari's Şemdinli district.
The Initiative ended its statement by calling on all the people of Kurdistan and their friends to take to the streets on June 1 for the liberation of Kurdish leader Öcalan and celebration of the historic June 1 Move. “Neither Kurds nor Kurdistan could achieve freedom without the liberation of Leader Apo, nor can peace ever be achieved in the country” it added.
