Kurds have brought life to a standstill on Thursday to condemn the Roboski massacre which claimed the life of 34 Kurdish civilians one year ago, on 28 December 2011. Thousands of Kurds took to the streets across the Kurdish region where all workplaces remained closed, students boycotted schools and all shutters were down.

The savagery of the massacre and the non-progress in the investigation into the incident were targeted by protesters in the districts of Derik, Nusaybin, Kýzýltepe (Mardin), districts of Silvan and Bismil (Diyarbakýr), disrict of Malazgirt (Muþ), districts of  Cizre, Silopi, Ýdil, Uludere and Beytüþþebap (Þýrnak).

Turkish police surrounded the demos and there was fear it might attack the crowd. The military has deployed a number of teams at all military points on the ways to the village of Roboski.

Hundreds of people started a sit-in in Diyarbakýr when police denied permission for the march organized by the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) and NGOs in protest against the massacre.
